Practice Areas

Bruce Brodie

Bruce was called to the Bar in 1993 and is also admitted as an Advocate in South Africa, having previously practised as a solicitor. He was articled at Barlow Lyde and Gilbert and joined Frere Cholmeley where he became a partner and was in turn head of litigation, managing partner and chairman. He had many years of experience in representing clients in arbitration and litigation, much of it high value international disputes.

He now mainly practises in arbitration (particularly international commercial arbitration) and mediation, and also in regulatory and disciplinary work particularly in relation to sport.  He is described as being "an excellent arbitrator", "thoroughly good at all he does" and "superb on disciplinary cases".  His style as a mediator is described as approachable, calm, authoritative and that he readily understands the issues and is confident and helps to concentrate minds, and that parties respond well to his "persuasive authority".

Recommendations

He is recommended for Media, Entertainment and Sport, as well as Commercial Arbitration by the Legal 500 2009, and for Sport by Chambers & Partners 2009 and as an International Arbitrator by Chambers & Partners 2010.
