Professional sport is now a significant commercial sector in its own right. Our sports law team continues to lead in this growing area of work advising and acting for professional sportsmen and women, match officials, agents, clubs, clinical practitioners, event organisers/promoters, schools, sports associations and governing/regulatory bodies in disputes involving professional football, rugby, athletics, horse racing, equestrianism, motor sports, golf, boxing, cycling, snooker and numerous other areas.
We recognise that effective advice requires not only tested knowledge of the law but also a real understanding of the sport in question, its history, its commercial basis and operation and the applicable regulatory framework. Our approach is to select a barrister with this experience.
Thirty Nine Essex Street has a particular expertise in claims by injured sportsmen. Members of our team appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in both Europe and Oceania, arbitrations and regulatory/disciplinary tribunals. They are appointed as arbitrators and mediators in sports liability disputes either ad hoc or by institutions, including Sport Resolutions UK and the Football League.
