Pupillage / Recruitment
In the light of its recent expansion, and the consequent short-term changes in chambers demographics at the junior end - which mean that it is not possible to predict what the business case for recruitment will be at the relevant time - 39 Essex Street has resolved that it should take one year (only) out of the pupillage round. We will therefore not be seeking candidates for the pupillage year 2014--15, and will therefore not be interviewing during the current OLPAS round.
We wish to stress that this decision has been made with a particular view to the best interests not only of our current and prospective (2013-14) pupils, but also of any future prospective pupils. Specifically, we wish to ensure that we are able to maintain our long-standing policy of being able to offer tenancies to pupils who satisfy our stated criteria for recruitment as tenants. We believe that allowing the pupillage year 2014-15 to lie fallow will ensure that that is so, both for those who will be pupils before that year and thereafter. Thus this decision neither impacts upon, nor is any reflection of concerns about, recruitment to tenancy from this year or next year's crop of pupils, in relation to whom the position remains as before.
This section deals with four very different kinds of intake at Thirty Nine Essex Street.
- Pupillage These applications are processed through the centralised, Internet-based Pupillage Portal: www.pupillages.com
- Application for Tenancy from Established Practitioners.
- Mini-pupillage (including a downloadable application form)
- Clerking and Administrative posts.
