TAKING STOCK: The MHA 1983 and MCA 2005 in Practice
A National Conference jointly promoted by the Approved Mental Health Professionals Association (North West and North Wales) and Cardiff Law School with sponsorship from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and Thirty Nine Essex Street Barristers Chambers and with support from Manchester University.
The Conference will review the leading judgments and policy challenges that have emerged over the last year in relation to the Mental Health and Mental Capacity legislation and the social care and medical contexts in which their influence comes to bear.
The Conference will open with a Key Note Address by Mr Justice (Sir Peter) Jackson of the High Court Family Division who has presided over a number of highly influential Mental Capacity and Mental Health Act cases in the Court of Protection (including for example, Hillingdon LBC v Neary).
The Conference brings together many leading legal, policy and mental health practitioners and commentators, whose work has shaped the law and practice in this field. They will, in their contributions, analyse recent legal judgments, medical and policy developments with the morning session chaired by Professor Richard Jones.
The Conference provides an opportunity for discussion and debate, and will be of special relevance to those who are affected by the legislation: service users, advocates, health and social care practitioners, lawyers, researchers, independent sector service providers and policy activists.
